Whitney Purvis is opening up about the loss of her son.
Tragedy struck the 16 and Pregnant star on Monday when her son Weston Gosa Jr. passed away very suddenly and unexpectedly. The late 16-year-old’s stepmother, Amy Gosa, revealed his father, Weston Gosa Sr., went to wake him up on Monday morning but shockingly found him unresponsive in his bed. He called an ambulance and attempted CPR while they were on the way, but the boy was tragically pronounced dead at the hospital.
Sadly, he suffered from type 1 diabetes as well as Addison’s disease and Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency. It’s not clear if they contributed to his death, but his loved ones have unfortunately had to battle nasty rumors surrounding the teen’s demise such as claims this had to do with fentanyl use, which they claim is untrue.

Since announcing his death, Whitney has been quiet. But now, she’s opening up about the storm of emotions she’s braving.
During an interview with People published on Thursday, the 33-year-old explained it feels as if time has been “standing still, just frozen” since learning of the news:
“I can’t distract myself. It’s going through my mind constantly. I hate to even pick up my phone.”
She told the outlet:
“When I’m not crying, I’m just staring at the ceiling. I never wanted to go through something like this. I mean, I know no one does, but you never think it’ll happen to you, and I just can’t even imagine a future now. I can’t imagine going on after this.”
So incredibly heartbreaking.
The grieving mother informed the outlet she was arriving in a parking lot for a class she’s taking when she received a call from Weston’s father with the devastating news. Unfortunately, the exes were in the midst of a disagreement so she didn’t pick up on his initial call. But when he sent a “911” text and called again, she knew something major was wrong:
“When I answered the phone, I could hear him crying before he spoke, and I knew it was going to be bad, and he told me, and I was just in shock. He told me everything he knew at that time, and that he would call me back, and I just pulled out of the parking lot and drove home and just screamed in my car, just screamed to the top of my lungs. I didn’t want it to be real. I didn’t understand what happened.”
How truly gut-wrenching. There are just no words…
Whitney then called her mother to share the horrible news before calling Weston’s father back to request an autopsy. As we noted, it remains unclear what exactly took the teen’s life, but Weston Sr. informed Whitney that he looked at security footage from cameras around his home and noticed Weston had been up and down all night long. She told the outlet:
“Big Weston said he came in Little Weston’s bedroom at 7 in the morning to wake him up, and he wouldn’t wake up. They called 911, and he did CPR until the ambulance got there, and they pronounced him dead at the hospital.”
Since the tragic loss, Whitney explained she’s been in solitude in an attempt to come to terms with her new reality:
“I’ve kind of wanted to be alone just because I have a hard time just talking to people. I just go through so many emotions, like being sad, being mad. It’s just been really, really rough. I’ve never cried this hard in my life, to where my eyeballs are swollen.”
Whitney and Weston Sr. also share 11-year-old son River, who she said is still struggling to understand the situation:
“River doesn’t understand it. River has autism, and I don’t think he quite understands what’s happening.”
However, one thing that the MTV personality claimed is helping her “feel better” is the outpouring of love and support she’s received from relatives and fans alike, including on the Spotfund fundraiser Weston’s stepmom set up to help cover his funeral costs. She said:
“It’s nice to see people care and care about him. I’m very grateful for the support people have been giving me and giving his father and stepmom. I think it’s very sweet, the people who have donated, because we would really like to bury him instead of cremating, and get him a nice headstone, and so the donations mean so much. I’m very grateful for the support.”
For now, Whitney is focusing on her memories with the late teen and their shared sense of humor. She noted he loved playing with action figures and was a computer and video game fanatic. He even had dreams of becoming a YouTube star one day. So sad that he’ll never get to achieve that goal.
The devastated mother said he was an all-around “good person,” adding:
“He was shy. He had an old soul. He loved animals and always made a friend wherever he went. He was a really kind boy. He was a really good boy, and he was so funny and handsome. He was such a good person. He was just a perfect kid. You just didn’t have any trouble out of him at all. He was smart, and he was super bashful, and a great big brother.”
Ugh. You can just hear how much love she has for him… What a tremendous loss.
Our hearts continue to be with Whitney, Weston Sr., and all of Weston’s loved ones. Rest in peace.
