With Spider-Man 4 filming in a scant few months, the rumor mill has been working over time to dig up any details they can about Tom Holland’s grand return to the MCU. While a lot of rumors have gone bunk, one persistent rumor is that the film is set to future the return of Gwen Stacy, a character entirely absent from the character’s previous trilogy in favor of a focus on Zendaya’s MJ.
This rumor recently gained more fire with a rumor from scooper MyTimeToShineHello, who revealed that Spider-Man 4 had recently cast its female lead and the main villain. This was corroborated by Alex Perez at The Cosmic Circus, who pointed fans back to their prior rumor that the project’s MCU codename was Blue Oasis. Many saw this as a nod back to the storyline Spider-Man: Blue, which prominently featured the hero’s romance with Gwen Stacy.
Who Will Play Gwen Stacy In Spider-Man 4?
This rumor lines up with a prior report that Madeline Cline was being eyed to join the MCU in Spider-Man 4. While some thought that the role Marvel wanted her for was Black Cat, it’s possible that the actress was always meant to play Gwen Stacy. This certainly lines up with their ages, with Cline being only a year younger than Tom Holland.
However, it’s important to note the working title Blue Oasis. While the “Blue” part implies that Gwen Stacy may play a role in Spider-Man 4, it leaves the “Oasis” part uncovered. Some speculate that the film is set to adapt One More Day for the MCU, potentially having Tom Holland’s hero make some sort of deal to get his old life back, which includes a romance with Gwen Stacy. As such, this would be an “Oasis”, or a hallucination serving as a reprieve from the harsh reality around oneself.
