Is Hunter Schafer finally joining the MCU? A rumor suggests Marvel has their eyes on her to play the X-Men villain Mystique in their upcoming reboot.
It’s been a little over a year since Marvel announced that an X-Men reboot was officially in development for the MCU. While official news has been mostly silent, the rumor mill has finally started to churn with details about the project. Perhaps the most interesting is casting news, with it being recently reported that the studio is currently in search of actors to play both Gambit and Kitty Pryde in the long-awaited project.
Yet it seems Marvel isn’t confining their search to only heroes. A rumor from MyTimeToShineHello suggests that the studio is eyeing Hunter Schafer to play longtime X-Men villain Mystique in the MCU. While Schafer is best known for her work on Euphoria, she also played Tigris Snow in The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes, an important detail given the film’s writer Michael Lesslie was reportedly a finalist to write the reboot early last year.
The X-Men Roster In The MCU Reboot
If this rumor is to be believed along with the others, it seems Marvel is going for a rather traditional line-up for their upcoming reboot of the X-Men in the MCU. While Mystique isn’t a mainstay on the team, she’s one of the most prevalent villains in the comics. The project also seems to be skewing on the younger side casting wise, with Hunter Schafer being 26 and reported Jean Grey frontrunner Sadie Sink being only 22.
This contrasts with another popular rumor that Cynthia Erivo is being eyed to play Storm in the MCU, given the actress is nearly 40. It’d be a large age gap for key members of the X-Men, especially given how much prominence Storm has gained with the team in recent years. While no rumor is certain to be true, it seems the upcoming Marvel project will have more false leads than most other films.
