Rachel Brosnahan Reveals The Moment She Knew David Corenswet Would Be Cast As Superman In The DC Universe

Does Rachel Brosnahan have a sixth sense for Superman? The Lois Lane actress reveals the moment that convinced her David Corenswet would be the face of the DC Universe.

With only a few months until Superman finally hits theaters, it’s almost impossible to imagine that anyone else besides David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan would be playing Clark Kent and Lois Lane in the DC Universe. However, it wasn’t that long ago when the entire future of the DC brand was a mystery. Dozens of names from Jacob Elordi to Mary Mouser were being thrown around to possibly join the cast as a member of the strongest power couple in fictional history.

Yet it seems, even before the cast was finalized, Rachel Brosnahan had a hunch who would be landing the titular role of Superman. When reflecting on seeing David Corenswet in his suit for the first time, Brosnahan admitted that she may have stolen a peek at the actor before production truly began on the DC Universe project. And it was that brief glimpse that convinced her that Corenswet would be the new face of the Man of Steel.

“It sort of happened twice,” Brosnahan told Variety when reflecting on seeing Corenswet in the Superman suit for the first time. “When we tested for the parts together, I was doing a play, so I had to get out very quickly. I was leaving and I knocked on the door, and he was standing there in a Superman suit, testing. I was just like, ‘Superman is in the building.’ It was wild. It was one of those electric moments that feel really rare. In that moment, I knew it would be David.”

How Rachel Brosnahan Prepared For Lois Lane

Yet David Corenswet is far from the only star of the show in Superman. Rachel Brosnahan is set to have an equally important role in the film was Lois Lane, serving as the third prong in the DC Universe trident that is Corenswet’s Clark Kent and Nicholas Hoult’s Lex Luthor. When speaking on her preparations for the role, she made note that she didn’t follow prior adaptations to a letter in an attempt to make the character her own.

“I was a big Smallville fan. I’d seen Superman and Lois. I grew up on the Donner Superman movies with Chris Reeves and Margot Kidder,” She continued to Variety at the red carpet for the Producers Guild Awards. “I didn’t want to re-watch too close to when we started, because we wanted to make it our own, but we’re aware that we’re standing on the shoulders of giants.”

Given just how many different incarnations of Superman and Lois Lane there are, David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan are certainly walking an interesting tightrope when it comes to forging a new future for the DC Universe. Though given what fans have seen so far, it seems that they are adding a new spin on the beloved characters while still bringing unique twists for the modern era.
