David Corenswet Comments On His Future As Superman In The DC Universe

]

Is David Corenswet in it for the long haul? The Superman actor gives his thoughts on his tentative future in the new DC Universe revival.

The mantle of Superman has been a bit of a cursed entity in the past 20 years. Aside from Tom Welling’s take in Smallville, every actor to portray the Man of Steel in live-action has had their time cut short. Be it through lackluster box office performances, regime changes, or series cancellations, nothing can seem to go right for the Man of Steel. Which has led many to wonder if David Corenswet will be shackled by the same bad luck in the new DC Universe.

The expectations on Superman are sky high. Not only is the film expected to make a profit, but it must do so well that it has to prove to be the launching off point for a brand new DC Universe. Suffice to say, David Corenswet is either going to be a modern day Robert Downey Jr., or he’ll be out of work come fall. This has left many to wonder if there are any plans already in motion to continue his tenure as the character beyond the first film.

How Long Will David Corenswet Play Superman?

David Corenswet was actually asked about his future as the character in a recent interview with Esquire. The actor was asked if he had any thoughts regarding how he would continue as the iconic Superman going forward. However, Corenswet admitted that it’s not his call if he stays or goes in the DC Universe after his inaugural film.

“I don’t think it’s up to me to say that,” Corenswet remarked. “It’s up to James Gunn, who has a great imagination. I’m only [where] I’m needed to say what’s written. Although [that] doesn’t always happen.”

Given the rocky state of superhero movies in the last few years (and the rocky state of the DC Universe in the last ten), it’s probably best that David Corenswet isn’t betting the farm on making a return as Superman. However, this does indicate that James Gunn and Peter Safran also aren’t making any preemptive deals regarding the movie’s success.

Superman is currently scheduled to hit theaters on July 11, 2025. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of the DC Universe and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
