Bokeem Woodbine Teases ‘Spider-Man’ Villain Shocker May Return To The MCU

]

Is the Shocker making his way back to the MCU? Bokeem Woodbine suggests he may be making his return as the beloved Spider-Man villain.

For as legendary as Tom Holland’s run as Spider-Man has been in the MCU, one can’t deny that his track record with villains hasn’t been perfect. While his trilogy has been able to deliver some truly amazing performances, such as Michael Keaton’s Vulture and Jake Gyllenhaal’s Mysterio, there’s also been a lot of characters to fade into the background. Perhaps the biggest offender of this is Spider-Man: Homecoming, which featured not just The Tinkerer, but also two versions of Shocker by Bokeem Woodbine and Logan Marshall-Green.

Fans have been calling for years for the Shocker to get some form of redemption in the MCU given how forgettable he was in his first outing. The character is a cornerstone of many Spider-Man adaptations, serving the all important role of “jobber that gets taken out in 20 seconds”. Luckily, it seems as though these plans may be coming true sooner than expected. When speaking with The Direct at SXSW, Bokeem Woodbine suggested a return may be in the cards for his villain.

“That’s a very good question,” Woodbine remarked when asked about a potential return as Shocker. “I’m wondering the same. But I get a feeling it might not be the last time you see the Shocker.”

Will Shocker Return In The MCU?

While this is certainly far from confirmation that Bokeem Woodbine is locked to return as Shocker, it’s likely that an established actor such as him would tease a role that big if talks weren’t already happening. This has left many to wonder what role Shocker could play in the upcoming Spider-Man trilogy, especially as the character tries to set a new tone for the MCU.

Given fans have been calling for a street-level Spider-Man trilogy in the MCU, Shocker wouldn’t be out of place as the villain of a B-Plot. It’s also important to note that the Venom symbiote was set up in the web-head’s last installment. Perhaps the most iconic moment of Shocker’s in Spider-Man history revolves around the hero chasing him “to the ends of the earth” in the symbiote suit. It’s possible that Bokeem Woodbine could be brought back to recreate that iconic animated scene on the silver screen.
