Fans reportedly have the runtime for Superman! However, it seems as though the freshman outing of the new DC Universe may be shorter than people think.
Superman is set to be the start of the new DC Universe, and oh boy does it show. The trailers so far have been absolutely chocked full of content. From the Justice Gang, to the entire Daily Planet team, not to mention at least five major villains (and fans haven’t even seen Otis!). That all to say, the internet has been expecting a rather beefy runtime for the film, with most guesses landing at the two and a half to three hour range.
However, those guesses may have been a bit too generous. Superman has reportedly been picture locked, securing its runtime just under two months from its big screen debut. According to a report from the account DC Film News, the DC Universe’s upcoming debut has a runtime of only 122 minutes, or about 2 hours and 2 minutes (including credits).
How Long Is The New Superman Movie?
To put that runtime into perspective, that makes Superman shorter than all but two movies in the old DC Universe, only beating out Birds of Prey (109 minutes) and Joss Whedon’s Justice League (120 minutes). It doesn’t get better when compared to other Superman movies, only being longer than Superman IV: The Quest for Peace (90 mins).
Of course, short doesn’t mean bad. Especially for superhero films, a long runtime could simply mean a lot of bloat kept in the story. Keeping a film nice and concise is never a bad thing, especially when they’re trying to get fans invested in a whole new DC Universe. Though with the release of Superman less than 50 days away, it won’t be long until fans see if this runtime will help or hurt the film.
Superman is currently scheduled to hit theaters on July 11, 2025. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of the DC Universe and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
