Is DC Studios bringing the heat to San Diego Comic-Con? A new report reveals that the franchise’s slate for SDCC may be less exciting than fans expect.
Late last month it was announced that DC would be making its grand return to San Diego Comic-Con by way of a new DC Studios panel. It was a thrilling prospect, especially considering the franchise hasn’t had a proper Hall H at SDCC for quite some time. While it was only officially confirmed that James Gunn and John Cena would be appearing to promote Peacemaker season 2, speculation began to go wild about what changes to the Chapter 1 slate might be announced.
Given the San Diego Comic-Con panel happens after Superman, many believe that James Gunn might be gearing up to reveal his next project for the slate of DC Studios films coming out in 2026 and beyond. This would also explain why only John Cena is appearing at SDCC, as the other projects set to be talked about likely won’t even be cast at the time of the panel, let alone ready to show footage like Peacemaker season 2.
What Will DC Show Off At SDCC?
Sadly, the show may be a bit less bombastic than some fans may have hoped for. A recent newsletter from The Hollywood Reporter confirms that James Gunn and DC Studios plan to only focus on Peacemaker season 2 at San Diego Comic-Con. The reason seems to be that Superman won’t have been out long enough to confirm anything new, and Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is still too far out to promote at SDCC.
Of course, it’s possible that this is a smokescreen being pulled by James Gunn. While the only thing they officially plan to show is Peacemaker season 2, it’s possible more DC Studios projects could be verbally confirmed if Superman takes an early lead at the box office. Who knows, John Cena could even film a small promotional video with David Corenswet to celebrate the occasion!
San Diego Comic-Con takes place July 24-27, 2025. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of the DC Universe and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
