Marvel is already making plans with the Silver Surfer! A rumor teases that the character may become a mainstay in the MCU, along with getting their own solo film.
Out of the current batch of characters Marvel still has left to introduce in the Multiverse Saga, the Silver Surfer stands out as an odd ball. Fans aren’t entirely sold on Julia Garner playing Galactus’ most famous herald in the MCU, especially as all signs in the rumor mill point to her playing Shalla-Bal instead of a gender-swapped Norrin Radd.
Yet it seems that, even if fans aren’t confident in the character, Marvel certainly is. A rumor from DanielRPK (via ComicBookMovie.com) reveals that the studio has plans for the Silver Surfer to appear across multiple projects in the MCU. This includes a solo film for the character following Julia Garner’s debut in The Fantastic Four: First Steps.
Is The Silver Surfer Getting A Solo Movie?
Notably, the rumor doesn’t reveal whether or not Julia Garner will make a return in the MCU, simply that Marvel has bigger plans for the Silver Surfer. This lines up with the longstanding rumor that Shalla-Bal will only serve as the Silver Surfer in The Fantastic Four: First Steps, with Norrin Radd taking over the mantle once Marvel’s First Family makes their transition to the MCU’s Sacred Timeline.
This theory would also line up with the rumor about a Silver Surfer solo film. It’s likely that The Fantastic Four: First Steps will go into the origins of Julia Garner’s Shalla-Bal. If Marvel gives the character a solo film once they’re recast, it wouldn’t just allow fans to get to know the story of Norrin Radd in the MCU, but would allow an opportunity for Garner to return as the non-herald version of her heroine.
