Is Jessica Jones getting a revival on Disney Plus? The latest Marvel rumor reveal the studio’s current plans for everyone’s favorite private eye.
For years at this point, Jessica Jones has been a hyperfixation of the rumor mill. And with it now being confirmed that Marvel is bringing Krysten Ritter back to reprise her role as the iconic heroine, speculation has shifted to wondering if there are any plans for her own series to get a revival on Disney Plus following the smash hit that was Daredevil: Born Again.
It seems as though, while Marvel doesn’t have anything concrete nailed down, there are movements toward a revival. The latest rumor from DanielRPK reveals that the studio wants to bring back Jessica Jones. However, they are currently considering whether to do it as a “Special Presentation” like Werewolf By Night and the upcoming The Punisher project, or if they should go with a more traditional series order on Disney Plus.
Will Jessica Jones Return On Disney Plus?
One would think that, if this rumor is true, Marvel would immediately go toward a full series order for Jessica Jones. However, things aren’t always that simple. It’s true, the eight episode format is likely the best fit for the show’s slow, character-focused style. But that would also mean clogging the studio’s much more limited offerings on Disney Plus with two ongoing projects originally created by Netflix- not counting any potential Heroes for Hire projects that might be in the works.
In contrast, while a special presentation would be a worse fit for Jessica Jones than a series, it may be the only way Marvel would be able to bring back the character that doesn’t result in years upon years of delays between seasons. It would also likely have a higher budget-per-minute than a potential Disney Plus series, allowing the character to interact with comic heroes one might not expect from eight hours of television.
Jessica Jones is now streaming on Disney Plus. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
