Mortal Kombat 2 is looking KILLER! Karl Urban steals the show as the beloved hero Johnny Cage in the first trailer for the long-awaited film.
For those invested in the fighting game scene, Mortal Kombat 2 is one of the most hyped films in years. While the first movie was far from perfect, it managed to scratch the itch many had for the series’ patented violence on the silver screen. And with a sequel greenlit with Karl Urban as Johnny Cage, there’s been a massive amount of hype built up to see the characters back in action.
And after literal years of waiting, the first trailer for Mortal Kombat 2 is officially here. The footage features both old faces, such as Lewis Tan’s Cole Young, and highly anticipated new ones such as Karl Urban’s Johnny Cage and Martyn Ford as Shao Kahn. And, of course, it doesn’t skimp on any of the violence that draws fans to the franchise over and over again!
Johnny Cage Takes Center Stage
Perhaps fittingly for his character, Karl Urban is absolutely all over the film’s marketing as Johnny Cage. Not only is he taking the spotlight in the trailer and poster, but yesterday the studio released a faux trailer for Uncaged Fury in an attempt to build hype for Mortal Kombat 2. And it certainly worked, with the cheesy video going viral in the film’s circles.

Mortal Kombat 2 is do or die for the franchise, so it makes sense that this trailer would put so much emphasize on Karl Urban, who’s the most billable actor in the film. Though even with how popular Johnny Cage is, another underperformance at the box office could be the death knell for the series on the silver screen. Even if, at the very least, it’ll be one bloody fatality!
