Akshay Kumar was the chief guest at the trailer launch of the Hindi version of Mohanlal’s ambitious 3D Malayalam film Barroz at a multiplex in Mumbai. Mohanlal and Akshay shared the stage and it made for an interesting moment. This is because Akshay Kumar has worked in several comedies directed by Priyadarshan and these films were remakes of Mohnalal’s starrers.

During the question and answer session with the media, Mohanlal was asked his views about his films being remade in Hindi, which starred Akshay and were directed by Priyadarshan. Mohanlal began by saying, “Priyan and I have done more than 40-45 films. Priyan’s first film, Mazha Peyyunnu Maddalam Kottunnu (1986), was with me. If I work in his 100th film, it’ll happen for the first time in the world where an actor in a director’s debut film and 100th film is the same!”

Mohanlal then replied, “Most of my films were remade into Hindi and Akshay ji has worked in them. You cannot compare actors. The films were totally different, in terms of costumes, characters, body language, etc.”

Mohanlal further said, “I love his films. I have seen most of the films that Priyadarshan has remade (and which feature Akshay Kumar). He’s a brilliant actor. He’s also very punctual and he loves his profession. He’s a 100% professional actor. I am not that professional!”

Akshay Kumar spoke highly of the film’s visual appeal and of Mohanlal. Mohanlal and he shared some lovely moments on stage. Akshay asked the veteran star to jump on the stage instead of using the steps. Mohanlal quipped that it must be a new experience for Akshay to sit in the front row in a theatre. Akshay Kumar, interestingly, was seen in a police inspector getup and he revealed that he had come straight from a shoot.

Also present at the trailer launch of Barroz were singer Shaan, Jayantilal Gada of Pen Studios and cinematographer Santosh Sivan.

Barroz releases in cinemas on December 25.
