Will Kraven the Hunter kill the Marvel Universe? Aaron Taylor-Johnson breaks down his character’s evolution and his hopeful future as the villain.
Most of the internet has already written off Kraven the Hunter, viewing the promotional run for the movie as one prolonged step onto the rake that is critical and box office failure. However, it seems not everyone has given up hope on the villain. The film’s star Aaron Taylor-Johnson reveals his desire to continue playing the character in future installments, citing hopes to face off with other superheroes that fans have grown to love on the silver screen.
“I mean, it’s very much the question to everyone else really, right?” Taylor-Johnson told Screenrant when asked about a potential fight with Spider-Man. “Because I think what we’ve done, what we’ve set up in this story is a really rich character that definitely has the legs to go on and do more damage. I think he should go toe-to-toe with some superheroes that we know. One of my favorite stories is Kraven’s Last Hunt. It was one of the source materials I used to go back from.”
Fans have been begging for an adaptation of Kraven’s Last Hunt for literal decades. However, given the project relies on Sony finally being able to parlay one of their villain films into an actual crossover with Spider-Man, fans and Aaron Taylor-Johnson alike shouldn’t hold their breath waiting to see it come to fruition.
Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s Evolution As Kraven
Most of Sony’s attempts to create films based around their Spider-Man villain gallery have seen them try to turn the characters into anti-heroes. Perhaps luckily, Kraven the Hunter seems to be taking an entirely different approach. Aaron Taylor-Johnson could go on to explain that the film shows his character’s descent into darkness, teeing him up perfect for a confrontation with any number of heroes in the Marvel universe.
“He’s got some dark demons there and we are basically showing the birth of that and how he becomes a villain that we then come to know. So really come see this movie, man. Come see this movie. I promise you it won’t disappoint. It’s got all the beats that you want and more. I think it could be an audience’s sort of villain favorite, definitely go toe-to-toe with some other people down the line, man.”
Given Kraven the Hunter has always been one of the more morally grey characters in Spider-Man’s villain roster, it’s interesting that this is the character Sony attempted to push fully away from the realm of being an anti-hero. Aaron Taylor-Johnson certainly has the chops to play darker characters as seen in projects like Kick-ass, but it’ll ultimately be the box office that decides his future as the iconic character.
Kraven the Hunter is currently scheduled to hit theaters on December 13, 2024. Stay tuned for all the latest news regarding the Aaron Taylor-Johnson movie and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more content!
