Andy Serkis Discusses ‘Last Minute’ Knull Casting And His Future As The Venom Villain

]

Is Knull gone for good? Andy Serkis speaks on the circumstances around his casting as the surprise villain in Venom: The Last Dance.

Fans were shocked when it was revealed that Knull was going to appear in Venom: The Last Dance. Many thought it was one of the few times Sony was actually able to make a viable plan for their villain universe and actually keep it hidden for an extended period of time (or at least, save it for a trailer beyond the initial teaser).

However, it seems Knull may not have been as planned out as many fans may have thought. When speaking on being cast as the villain in Venom: The Last Dance, Andy Serkis admitted that it was a very last minute decision, revealing that he was asked to voice the character during the first phone call he got about the opportunity.

“Well, that’s also very interesting. I really, genuinely have no idea,” Serkis explained when asked about Knull’s future by ScreenRant at FAN EXPO San Francisco. “It was very much, ‘Can you come in?’ It was quite last minute, actually. ‘Can you come in and do the voice for Knull?’ So, I came in and did it on the stage.”

Andy Serkis’ Future As Knull After Venom: The Last Dance

Of course, just because a decision was made at the last minute doesn’t mean that Sony had no plans for the villain. It’s entirely possible Andy Serkis was called in to replace an actor who had previously dropped out. However, as Serkis would go on to state, the future for the character that was hyped up during the promotion for Venom: The Last Dance seemed to be as much of a mystery to the studio as it was to the audience.

“Then there was talk of, ‘This could go on… He’s quite a big character,’ and I was like, ‘Yeah, I know that.’ Well, let’s see what happens, actually.”

It’s a shame to hear that all of the plans Sony seemingly had for Knull was just bluster. While it’s possible that Andy Serkis could come back as the villain after Venom: The Last Dance, it’s clear that those plans will be have been made long after teases previously made in the promotion for the film.
