Is The Batman sequel going to be something truly special? Andy Serkis reveals his excitement to return in Matt Reeves’ long-awaited film.
It’s nearing three years since The Batman first hit theaters all the way back in 2022. And despite fans just recently getting an award winning spin-off with The Penguin this past fall, they’re still starving for any news they can get about the upcoming sequel. Yet with filming still seeming to be far off on the horizon, most have resigned themselves to the infamous rumor mill for their fix about Matt Reeves’ beloved universe.
That is, until Andy Serkis’ recent appearance at Megacon in Orlando. While most know the actor from his bevvy of mo-cap roles from Gollum in Lord of The Rings to Caesar in Planet of the Apes, he also played Alfred in The Batman. When asked about the highly-anticipated sequel, the actor revealed that Matt Reeves had actually told him the plot of the film, and he’s just as ecstatic to start working as fans are to see it on the big screen.
“I am as hungry for it as you all are. [Matt Reeves] told me the story of The Batman 2, and I was so excited for it.”
Everything Fans Know About The Batman Sequel
Matt Reeves and the rest of the team at DC Studios have been incredibly tight-lipped when it comes to any details about The Batman sequel. This is partially because the script for the film isn’t finished yet, which is why the project was recently delayed from October of 2026 all the way to 2027. However, a few details have managed to find their way online.
One of the most interesting tidbits dropped by Matt Reeves is that, while the sequel will build off the events of The Batman, he hopes to take it in an interesting direction that will surprise fans. Robert Pattinson also teased that his take on the Caped Crusader will be getting a costume upgrade, suggesting that fans may finally be getting one of the most requested features from the comics on the silver screen.
