Will Daredevil: Born Again be darker than people think? Series showrunner Dario Scardapane teases the project will have more violence than the Netflix incarnation.
Daredevil: Born Again has a lot to prove. The series is a revival of one of the most beloved superhero shows of all time during its tenure on Netflix. Now with a new showrunner, a new cast and, most importantly, a new home, fans have some reservations about the quality. The most prominent concern comes from the project being a Disney Plus show, which many fans believe may lead to it having much less violence than the original series.
Luckily, it seems those fears may be a tad misplaced. When talking about Daredevil: Born Again in a recent chat with Empire Magazine, showrunner Dario Scardapane reveals that their team didn’t hold back on the violence just because the series was streaming on Disney Plus. In fact, they seemed to push the envelop even further than the original Netflix series did during its run.
“The level of violence is way up there for a Marvel/Disney show. I don’t think there’s anything else even in the ballpark. There’s a moment in this that is just absolutely batsh*t, and way past anything Netflix ever did.”
Daredevil: Born Again Changes The Netflix Formula
The level of violence isn’t the only change Dario Scardapane is making from the Netflix series in Daredevil: Born Again. The showrunner also seeks to shift the dynamic of the two leading characters: Kingpin and Matt Murdock. According to Scardapane, the two will meet much earlier in the season than in the Netflix incarnation, with things continuing to boil over for them throughout the remaining episodes of the show.
“If you look at how it ends almost every season, they punch the shit out of each other, Kingpin goes to jail, we know he’s gonna come back. I didn’t want to do that. This dynamic is way more tense. There’s one scene between them in the first episode that lays it all out. Then we spend the next eight episodes throwing rocks at it.”
Much like how the level of violence doesn’t change the core of the character, it seems that Dario Scardapane is set to keep the essence of the duo’s rivalry alive in Daredevil: Born Again, while still making it unique from the Netflix series. It’s unclear if the showrunner’s gamble will pay off, but at the very least he isn’t as hamstrung as many fans suspected.
Daredevil: Born Again will release in March 4, 2025 on Disney Plus. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
