Couple’s Joke About Getting Married at Their Favorite Thrift Shop Becomes Reality

]

A couple in the U.K. turned their love for pre-loved goods into a thrift store wedding.

Nina and Stefan Pope — who have furnished their home for nearly 20 years with secondhand items found at thrift stores around their neighborhood — decided to tie the knot inside one of their favorite places — a thrift shop outside of Manchester, England, according to CBS News.

The couple said, per the outlet, that getting married at the shop started as a joke between the two when they first started dating due to their love for finding secondhand items. However, when the time came for them to walk down the aisle, they decided to make that dream come true.

They enlisted the help of their friend who owned the thrift store to help them bring their wedding vision to life and transformed the space into a wedding celebration. While envisioning the wedding, their friend said, “the ideas just started coming.”

They used the pillars inside the shop as the central point and added donated rugs to form the makeshift aisle. Additional wedding decorations including lanterns, drums and gold banners, were hung up to jazz the place up.

However, it wasn’t just the space that echoed their love for pre-loved goods, but the items they used for the wedding as well. The couples’ 150 guests sat on donated chairs during the ceremony.

“They were the church pews that we had that were donated just a week before so that was serendipitous,” Stefan recalled.

The couple said, per CBS News, that everything came together exactly as they had imagined. Nina recalled being in awe the moment that she finally walked down the aisle toward her soon-to-be-husband in a secondhand dress (while he wore a secondhand suit).

“I walked in like, ‘wow’ [and] that’s what you want,” she said. “It’s your special day.”

Following with the theme, the couple also sealed the deal with golden rings that came from the thrift shop.

The whole wedding ended up costing the couple about $250, according to CBS News. “And that was only because I was like, we should get a bit of food,” Nina said.

Their family and friends even made the couple cakes, which were served on used china plates in the secondhand shop. Nina recalled, “We must have had 15 wedding cakes.”

“It was just lovely because everyone feels festive,” Stefan added.
