Is Damson Idris joining the MCU? The actor speaks out on the recent rumor his name was in the ring in the search to recast Black Panther.
Perhaps the most publicized rumor of 2025 so far has been one stating that Marvel is looking to recast T’Challa in the MCU. This comes nearly five years following the sudden and tragic passing of Chadwick Boseman, who previously donned the mantle of Black Panther in his solo project and multiple crossover films.
The rumor suggests that Marvel is looking to recast Black Panther heading into the next saga of the MCU. A number of names have been thrown out when it comes to who Marvel is reportedly courting to play T’Challa. The most visible rumor featured the names of John David Washington, Kelvin Harrison Jr., and Aaron Pierre as being at the top of the studios list. However, other names like Damson Idris and Aldis Hodge have both been mentioned by other scoopers.
Will Damson Idris Play Black Panther?
Unlike most musings on the internet, this rumor actually found its way onto the desk of Damson Idris himself when a fan @’d him stating that the actor turned down the role of Black Panther. The actor jokingly confirmed this in a sarcastic post, revealing that, alongside turning down Marvel’s attempt to recast T’Challa in the MCU, he also gave up the roles of James Bond, Eddie Murphy, and a spot in a film with Daniel Day Lewis.

Of course, Damson Idris would be far from the only person to lie about a potential role in the MCU. Though given how flippant he was in disregarding the chances of playing Black Panther if the character is getting recast, it’s likely that he’s not currently in talks with Marvel to portray T’Challa on the silver screen.
