Is Damson Idris the next Black Panther? The actor plays coy about the rumor he’ll be replacing Chadwick Boseman as the King of Wakanda in the MCU.
When Chadwick Boseman first passed away, most people couldn’t even think about recasting Black Panther. However, now nearly five years on from the actor’s passing, and with the MCU entering a brand new era beyond the Multiverse Saga, conversations have begun to pop up about if the character should be recast. And, if so, who should ultimately play them.
Damson Idris sits at the top of many fans’ list regarding who the MCU should recast as Black Panther. And with Black Panther 3 now officially in development, there seems to be no better time than now to introduce a new actor to continue Chadwick Boseman’s legacy as the character. When asked about these rumors, Idris seemed to play coy about the possibility of taking on the role of the iconic king.
“While visiting Today on Wednesday, the 33-year-old F1: the Movie actor was asked to participate in a game in which he answered a series of yes or no questions about what he’s got coming up next in his career.”
“‘There’s some speculation out there in the universe that you could be cast as the next Black Panther,’ co-anchor Craig Melvin said. ‘Have you had any conversations about that? Yes or no?” Entertainment Weekly wrote “Idris let out a groan in response. ‘Yes-no!’ He shouted, trying his best to cheekily sidestep the question.”
Is Damson Idris The New Black Panther?
Damson Idris, like many others who have been floated to replace Chadwick Boseman as Black Panther in the MCU, has been on an absolute tear across Hollywood in recent years. Though, given the nature of the game, it was hard to tell exactly how he felt about the idea. Following up on the question, it seems as though Idris is at least open to taking on the role.
“Melvin wasn’t letting him off the hook that easily. ‘By the way, the yes-no means yes,’ he teased, to which Idris replied, ‘Uh, it could mean no! But ‘it probably means yes,’ Melvin said. He added, ‘If they asked, would you say yes?’ Idris didn’t hesitate with his response. ‘Yes,’ he confirmed.”
Given that Black Panther would likely be recast in the coming months, with Chadwick Boseman’s replacement likely making his debut in Avengers: Doomsday, official news about Damson Idris joining the MCU may be out sooner than fans might expect. However, given the nature of the industry, it’s possible that the actor simply had a conversation with Marvel Studios with no deal signed.
