The Mandalorian & Grogu is right on track! Dave Filoni hypes up the Star Wars film as production comes to an end.
To say that there are high expectations for The Mandalorian and Grogu is an understatement. The first season of the show put Star Wars back on the map after a lackluster stint on the silver screen. However, that new hope was recently extinguished with its lackluster last season, causing the studio to shift their plans for a season 4 into a feature film helmed by Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau.
This increased prominence and production value have left many hoping that The Mandalorian and Grogu is a return to form for the Star Wars series. The project is also seemingly set to be a culmination of everything Dave Filoni has been building on Disney Plus with projects like Ahsoka, meaning it may not be the only project cut short if the film fails to meet expectations with viewers.
Dave Filoni Teases ‘Evolution’ In The Mandalorian And Grogu
Lips are obviously locked as tight as can be regarding the plot of The Mandalorian and Grogu, especially as the film still has a year and a half left in the oven until release. However, that doesn’t mean that Dave Filoni has to stay silent. The writer revealed that the film truly brought some elements from the original series to the next level, especially when it came to puppeteering.
“I’m very excited about it as well,” Filoni explained in a talk with ExtraTV. “Jon and I had a great time working on that, as we always do. It was great seeing Grogu. He’s become such a star, and it’s amazing how it’s evolved, what we can do now with the puppetry compared to Season 1 and where we are today in a film working with the team which I worked quite a bit with them on the puppetry. Legacy effects did a fantastic job, and what a wonderful little creation Grogu is.”
It’s definitely to be expected that the budget of a tentpole Star Wars film would allow Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau to increase the realism of Grogu’s puppet! It’s too early to tell whether The Mandalorian and Grogu will be the smash success the studio is hoping for, but hopefully it can at least tie up all of the loose ends set up by the series in its first three seasons.
The Mandalorian and Grogu is set to land in theaters May 22, 2026. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the Star Wars universe and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
