‘Deadpool’ Director Tim Miller Reveals Scrapped ‘X-Men’ Movie Inspired By ‘Home Alone’

Is Deadpool home alone at Marvel Studios? Director Tim Miller reveals his X-Men film that was scrapped when Disney acquired 20th Century Fox.

Fox was throwing everything at the wall when it came to the X-Men before the studio was bought by Disney. Aside from Deadpool, the studio hadn’t found the lightning in a bottle that they captured in the early 2000s. This is why so many odd projects were in development at the tail-end of the franchise’s life, from Channing Tatum’s Gambit movie to a movie based on the villain Omega Red.

So it only makes sense that Fox would approach Deadpool director Tim Miller to take a crack at the iconic team of mutants. Shockingly, he seemed to have a pretty unique idea in mind. When speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Miller explained that he was working on an X-Men film inspired by Home Alone prior to the buyout, and still hopes to see it made one day under the new regime.

“I think that the Marvel has this secret weapon they haven’t been able to unveil yet, which is the whole X-Men universe – which is what got me into comics. The X-Men are my favorite characters. I wrote Kevin Feige, and I’m like, ‘If there was ever anything that you would let me do in the Marvel Universe, please, the X-Men would be it.’”

“I had an X-Men movie in development at Fox when the merger happened, which would have been awesome. [It was based on] X-Men 143, which was Home Alone meets Alien.”

What Would Tim Miller’s X-Men Movie Have Been About?

While it may seem shocking to hear the words Home Alone and X-Men in the same sentence, Tim Miller is actually referencing a real issue of the comics. In X-Men 143, a young Kitty Pryde is left in the X-Mansion alone during Christmas, with all the other X-Men leaving to visit friends or family. Her relaxation is soon interrupted by the demon N’Garai, who the heroine must fend off without backup.

It’s certainly an interesting premise for an X-Men film, especially given Fox’s bent toward R-rated projects like Deadpool and horror adjacent films like New Mutants. It’s also possible that this could still get made as a standalone Kitty Pryde movie, given she’s one of the most popular members of the hero team. Though given Marvel’s track record with picking up where other studios left off, it’s not likely Tim Miller will be stepping back into the director’s chair for it anytime soon.

An X-Men reboot is currently in development for the MCU. Stay tuned for the latest updates surrounding the X-Men reboot and be sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
