Is Mister Terrific one of the key players in the DC Universe? Edi Gathegi confirms that he has a contract that allows him to appear in more than just Superman.
It’s no secret that Superman has officially made Mister Terrific a household name. Overnight, the character has gone from a B-Lister with a footnote in the Arrowverse to a hero with the name recognition to headline the new DC Universe. Though there’s one question on everyone’s mind: are there even any plans for Edi Gathegi to return as the character?
The answer seems to be yes- and then some. When speaking to Variety, Edi Gathegi revealed that he signed a multi-picture deal to play Mister Terrific in the DC Universe. Though the actor admits that he isn’t sure about the exact details of his future as the character after Superman, he does have faith in the quality of the franchise heading into future installments.
“I know that I have a multi-project deal, but the specifics of that are unknown to me. What James is driving home is the idea that they’re never going to rush into production with scripts that aren’t ready, so even whatever they do have planned for my characters is irrelevant until the draft comes in and it’s shootable.”
“So I don’t count my chickens before they hatch. I want to be involved in this universe in a major way, and whether or not that comes to fruition is just a matter of time and faith and other people’s hard work.”
Mister Terrific’s Future In The DC Universe
Some fans were disappointed when the credits rolled for Superman and all fans saw in the post-credits scene was a quick gag between Mister Terrific and the Man of Steel. However, it seems as though Edi Gathegi views the scene differently than most. He sees the scene, not just as a gag, but a promise for the character heading into the future of the DC Universe.
“That was originally in the movie. I wasn’t there for the decision making, but to me, it’s exciting because that’s a promise. I don’t know if it’s a promise that DC is intending to make, but to have that moment at the very end of the movie, for me personally, is the full circle moment of me being unceremoniously killed before the big battle in X-Men: First Class to be kind of the last man standing.”
Even though his future isn’t certain, it’s clear that fans are itching to see more of Mister Terrific in the DC Universe. With rumors of a spin-off series starring Edi Gathegi swirling around the industry, it also seems as though the higher-ups realize the potential of his character following the success of Superman. Though, whenever he’s seen again, it truly can’t be soon enough!
