As Mister Terrific and Superman secretly besties? Edi Gathegi explains how his character views the DC Universe’s most powerful hero in the upcoming film.
Despite how prominent Mister Terrific has been in the marketing and production of Superman, most fans have let speculation about the character fall to the wayside. After all, there are so many interesting questions to explore in the new DC Universe. Why would the internet waste time on a relationship that seems completely amicable?
However, it seems as though things aren’t as clean cut as they seem on first brush. Heroic Hollywood founder Umberto Gonzalez was one of the journalists who had the chance to speak with Edi Gathegi during a visit to the Superman set while the film was still in production. The Mister Terrific actor revealed that his character doesn’t have the highest opinion of the Blue Boy Scout, even though Clark thinks they’re much closer.
“Superman thinks that Mister Terrific is his BFF. That’s not true. [Mister Terrific] thinks he’s a herb. They are brothers in fighting crime. They’re brothers in being heroes. But they don’t have a lot in common.”
The Complex Mind Of Mister Terrific
It seems as though Mister Terrific is shaping up to be one of the most layered characters in Superman. Edi Gathegi explained that his hero was much more grumpy than fans might expect, especially when compared to other DC Universe heroes such as the Man of Steel himself.
“Our version of Mister Terrific is a little more complex in the sense that he’s battling other demons that pepper out,” Gathegi remarked. “So he’s a little grumpy in this film.”
Of course, it’s likely he doesn’t stay grumpy for long. By now, most fans have seen the BTS footage of Edi Gathegi jumping around with an invisible Krypto during production. Though given how tense the relationship between Superman and Mister Terrific starts off, it’ll be interesting to see how that change slowly comes to light once the movie finally hits theaters.
