Filmmaker Ram Madhvani’s web show The Waking of a Nation started streaming on Sony LIV from Friday March 7 onwards. Along with him, the show is also written by Shantanu Srivastava and Shatrujeet Nath. Interestingly, Srivastava had written the dialogues for Rohit Shetty’s cop drama Singham Again, which was hugely different from The Waking of a Nation. While the Ajay Devgn starrer was a massy masala entertainer, the Sony LIV show is a realistic historical based during the British era.
EXCLUSIVE: Shantanu Srivastava on writing Singham Again dialogues before The Waking of a Nation, “I don’t know if there is a button to switch between two different projects”
During an exclusive chat with Bollywood Hungama, when this was pointed out to Srivastava and he was asked how does he switches over between two enormously different projects, he said, “I have not rehearsed an answer for this. I have no idea how to change and if there is an actual button that you press to switch from Singham Again to The Waking of a Nation.”
After giving it some thought, the writer said that it is all about the team in each project. “Most of the work is primarily about the kind of people you collaborate with,” he said. “I really like working with Rohit Shetty sir also. There is a lot of freedom and a lot of conversation that happens in his writers’ room. So, it’s a process that I enjoy. Because I know I am writing a certain kind of a mainstream commercial film and I am surrounded by people who are experienced in that. So, I take their advice, direction and motivation and work on it.”
He added, “Similarly, when I switch the conference room from Rohit Shetty Picturez to Ram Madhvani Films, I know the kind of stuff we will be discussing. I know what we are making. So, the process is different and it helps you write different stuff.”
The Waking of a Nation stars Taaruk Raina, Nikita Dutta, Sahil Mehta and Bhawsheel Singh Sahni in pivotal roles.
