I am Groot? Vin Diesel seemingly confirms that Marvel Studios is developing a new spin-off for the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 was a bitter sweet moment for fans. While it was a shame to see the characters that audiences have grown to love over the past decade take their bow for a final time, nothing is rarer in modern Hollywood than a beloved film series finally getting an ending. Which, of course, left fans with one question on their mind: when is Marvel Studios making a spin-off?
A spin-off of the Guardians of the Galaxy almost seemed inevitable given the success of the characters, especially since most of the main cast decided to put down their mantles once James Gunn left Marvel Studios for DC Studios. Many thought characters like Adam Warlock and Star-Lord were prime candidates for receiving their own film. However, according to Vin Diesel, the honor may actually go to Groot.

Is Groot Getting His Own Movie?
It may seem odd for Marvel Studios to develop a spin-off around the only member of the Guardians of the Galaxy to be unable to talk. However, Groot has proved to be quite the tour de force when it comes to popularity. The character has already had his own Disney Plus series with I Am Groot. Additionally, Vin Diesel, for any faults fans may have with him, knows how to make an action blockbuster that gets fans in seats.
As for what the spin-off would be about, Vin Diesel seems to suggest that Marvel Studios wants to bring back to his home of Planet X. Given how expensive this would be to practically pull off, it’s possible that the studio wants the Guardians of the Galaxy breakout character to star in his own animated movie. This would also allow the studio to hedge their bets with canonicity, especially if the project doesn’t turn out the best.
