Is Hawkeye season 2 actually going to happen? The latest rumor suggests that Jeremy Renner may be in active talks to return as the hero.
Hawkeye is perhaps the oddest series in Marvel’s Disney Plus pantheon. The show was one of the most popular projects the studio put on the platform, had a star-studded cast, and was received well by critics. This not to mention that for years the rumor mill teased that the show would return for a season 2, albeit with a scaled back budget and a bigger focus on Hailee Steinfeld than her co-star Jeremy Renner.
Many expected a confirmation for season 2 to come any day. However, these hopes went up in smoke when earlier this year it was revealed that Jeremy Renner turned down the chance to return for a second season of Hawkeye due to pay disputes, likely stemming from his lessened role in the series’ proposed continuation. This left fans convinced that the show was dead in the water.
Will Hawkeye Get A Season 2?
Yet just as everything with the MCU these days, it’s time to go from “It’s so over” to “we’re so back”. The latest rumor from DanielRPK suggests that there is hope for a season 2 of Hawkeye, with the insider revealing that Jeremy Renner is in active talks with Marvel Studios to return as the beloved archer. While there’s no news on how these talks are going, it’s more likely than not (if they are happening) that confirmation of a continuation will be given at this year’s D23 expo.
Of course, it’s likely that Jeremy Renner will return as Hawkeye even if season 2 never gets greenlit. Marvel likely wants him to at least appear in the upcoming Multiverse Saga finale in some form, and he’ll likely be following Hailee Steinfeld for a small cameo in the long-rumored Young Avengers project. Though given how much fans enjoyed the Disney Plus series, here’s to hoping it gets renewed for one final ride!
