Should Marvel be doing more with Captain Carter? Hayley Atwell reveals her desire to return as the controversial multiverse hero in Avengers: Doomsday.
One of the most surprising names fans noticed was absent from the Avengers: Doomsday cast reveal was Hayley Atwell. To many, Captain Carter has become the face of Marvel’s multiverse, for better and for worse. The character has had so much screen time in the Multiverse Saga that it was all but expected that she would return to the role in one of the final films of the era.
Yet despite how much exploration Marvel has given Captain Carter, Hayley Atwell reveals that she still has a strong desire to do more as the character. When asked about the possibility of a return as the character in Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars, the actress said she viewed the character as “underserved”, and would love to bring the characters full depth to the silver screen.
“There are so many things that she could do,” Atwell explained to Den of Geek. “There’s so much more I feel I can bring to a character because I’ve developed as time’s gone on. What’s so great about having time behind you and having had a 20-year career so far is the development of skill, and I think there’s so much more that Peggy can do. She’s very much an underserved character.”
“When she says ‘I know my value and everyone else’s opinion doesn’t really matter,’ it’s because she hasn’t been given the platform that she knows she deserves and that she’s really capable of doing in the world.”
“And so I just think there is just so much more that she can do, and I think she speaks to a modern time, so to be able to take her to that next level as Captain Carter would be phenomenal. Especially with all my Mission: Impossible training. I am ready, let’s go!”
Will Captain Carter Return In Avengers: Doomsday?
Given how packed the cast of Avengers: Doomsday already is, it’s going to be a tight fit to try to squeeze Captain Carter in. Especially since the last time fans saw the character she had a…less than certain future. However, that doesn’t mean that Hayley Atwell won’t be making her return. In fact, it’s likely that Peggy Carter does appear in some form in the upcoming film alongside Steve Rogers.
The question is: Will Captain Carter appear in Secret Wars after Avengers: Doomsday? This one is less certain given both the character’s fate and Hayley Atwell’s previous live-action role as the character. However, if any character was going to be the face of the Multiverse Saga, it’s likely that she’ll be taking up that mantle.
