To many, Deadpool and Wolverine was seen as the start of a victory lap for Hugh Jackman. A celebration for the actor carrying Fox’s corner of the Marvel universe on his back for nearly two decades. Fans were certain that the character would return for one last hurrah in Avengers: Secret Wars as a representative of comic book films before the MCU. However, it seems Jackman may have more juice left in him than many fans believed.
A new rumor from scooper MyTimeToShineHello states that Hugh Jackman is just as chipper to play Wolverine as ever, with the actor wanting to continue playing his iconic role for “at least another decade” in the MCU. Marvel seemingly isn’t set to waste this enthusiasm, with the studio wanting a new Deadpool and Wolverine trilogy to coincide with his time as the character.
Is Hugh Jackman Playing The MCU’s Wolverine?
This rumor has split many parts of the Marvel fandom. It’s undeniable that Hugh Jackman has cemented himself as an icon of comic book culture thanks to his role as Wolverine. To some, his eagerness to return is simply more of what has already been so great. Yet to others, there’s a worry that the success of Deadpool and Wolverine has blinded the studio of the potential to bring a younger actor in as Wolverine in the MCU.
There’s plenty of pros and cons on each side. Hugh Jackman would finally get a (good) trilogy to star in if Deadpool and Wolverine continues its box office success. On the other hand, the Wolverine actor would be pushing 70 by the time his tenure in the MCU is over if this rumor turns out to be true, which may leave his final years as a bit less action-packed as fans expect.
