James Gunn Confirms ‘Creature Commandos’ Characters Will Appear In ‘Superman’

The Creature Commandos are taking over the DC Universe! James Gunn confirms that some of the franchise’s weirdest heroes will appear in Superman.

Creature Commandos has been a smash hit with fans, breaking records on Rotten Tomatoes and just generally being considered a wonderfully weird ride from the mind of James Gunn. However, given the recent trend of Disney Plus projects being required viewings for some MCU films, some fans worry that the DC Universe is headed down the same path with the animated series teeing up key storylines heading into Superman.

Luckily, it seems James Gunn has learned from the mistakes of his predecessors with the DC Universe. The director confirmed that the series won’t be required viewing for Superman. However, and perhaps more interestingly, he did confirm that some characters from Creature Commandos will be appearing in the highly-anticipated film.

“[Creature Commandos] happens before [Superman] and shares some characters and is in the same universe,” Gunn explained in a recent post on Threads. “But there is nothing you have to know from [Creature Commandos] to understand [Superman].”

Will The Creature Commandos Appear In Superman?

Despite how shocking this may seem, this is actually old news. James Gunn has already confirmed that Frank Grillo’s Rick Flag Sr. would appear in Superman, with set photos confirming his confirmation. This means that there’s no guarantee that any other character from the series will appear in the film, even if they survive to live another day in the DC Universe.

The most likely characters to crossover from Creature Commandos into Superman include Viola Davis’ Amanda Waller (who currently hasn’t been confirmed for the film, despite being stated to return in the DC Universe) and Steve Agee’s John Economos. However, it’s also possible that Anya Chalotra makes her live-action debut as Circe, despite having not been seen in any set photos for the project.

Creature Commandos is now streaming on Max. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DC Universe.
