James Gunn is writing a brand new movie for the DC Universe! Speculation has some fans wondering if a World’s Finest film may be on the horizon.
James Gunn has been incredibly busy laying the foundation of the new DC Universe. The writer and director didn’t just craft a masterful season of television with Creature Commandos, but is also finishing production on Superman and season 2 of Peacemaker. This has left fans asking “What’s next?” for the architect of the franchise, be it a break or a continuation of one of his projects.
The answer? Neither. James Gunn recently took to social media to reveal that he is “pre-writing” his next film for the DC Universe. While the director didn’t give many more details aside from that, he did confirm that the project was something “new” and not already announced, meaning that it can’t be Creature Commandos season 2, The Authority, or anything otherwise.
What Is James Gunn Writing Next?
Everyone has their own speculation about what project James Gunn could be tackling next. Is it a sequel to Superman? Maybe a movie for The Terrifics? However, there does already seem to be a rumor about what film he’s writing. Scooper Jeff Sneider revealed in his newsletter that he thinks Gunn is currently writing a film based on World’s Finest, a crossover of Batman and Superman.
“The signs that I’m getting is that the next Batman movie won’t be The Batman 2…The next time you see Batman, it’ll be in like a World’s Finest movie or something…That is probably what [Gunn] is working on right now.”
Of course, this rumor should be taken with a massive grain of salt given James Gunn hasn’t submitted anything official, making it impossible to actually know if he’s writing World’s Finest or not. Though regardless, that would be an interesting direction to take the DC Universe, allowing fans to see the crossover of the two greatest heroes before an official Justice League film.
