Fans should be getting hyped for Superman! James Gunn sings his praises for David Corenswet as initial test screenings for the project take place.
Superman is quickly turning out to be one of the most-anticipated projects of the decade. A lot of pressure is on James Gunn, David Corenswet, and the entire DC Studios team to produce something truly groundbreaking. Not only do many consider it a “Make or break” point for the DC Universe on the silver screen, but it may also be the test to see if the era of superhero films is finally on its way out.
Just like any other blockbuster film, it seems the studio is setting up test screenings to make sure the project connects with audiences and to see if any last-minute changes need to be made before release. While James Gunn obviously plans to keep a tight hold on any leaks that might come out of these early viewings, it wouldn’t be a shock to hear initial reactions to David Corenswet’s performance as Superman to hit the web in the coming weeks.
David Corenswet Will ‘Freak Everyone Out’
Even though test screenings are meant to sure up confidence in a film before release, James Gunn already seems all-in on one aspect of Superman. That aspect is David Corenswet’s performance as the titular Man of Steel. When speaking about his upcoming DC Studios projects with The Hollywood Reporter, Gunn explained that Corenswet is one of the best actors he’s ever worked with, teasing that his performance will shock audiences when they finally see him on the silver screen.
“I feel great. Superman is an enormous bear of a movie. It’s completely different from [Creature Commandos] in every way, but it’s very much fantastic as well. Honestly, from the bottom of my heart, David Corenswet is going to freak everyone out with how great he is. He is one of the best actors I’ve ever worked with, and he can do everything. The man is incredible.”
Given David Corenswet has some massive shoes to fill in taking on the mantle from Henry Cavill, it’s a relief to hear that James Gunn has so much confidence in the leading man he picked for Superman. Even though early reactions to the project may leak online in the coming months due to ongoing test screenings, fans won’t truly know whether this new DC Universe sinks or swims until the project finally hits theaters.
Superman is currently scheduled to hit theaters on July 11, 2025. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of the DC Universe and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
