James Gunn Teases Nubia’s Debut In The DC Universe

]

Is Nubia finally set to make her live-action debut? James Gunn suggests that the iconic Wonder Woman supporting hero may appear in the DC Universe.

It’s not an exaggeration to say that the DC Universe hasn’t had many new stand-out characters in recent years. Damage, Sideways, and even The Designer have all been mainstream flops, despite being cult hits. However, there is one character that has managed to break their way into popular culture. That being, the Wonder Woman supporting heroine Nubia.

Nubia first appeared back in Wonder Woman Vol. 5 #75 back in 2019 (though this was technically a reintroduction of the character, having first been introduced as Diana’s sister back in 1973). The character made a splash as being the first black Amazon in the DC Universe. Since them, the character has been one of the most popular “new” characters to come out of the franchise, even landing a spot in the Multiversus fighting game.

Will Nubia Appear In The DC Universe?

This has led many to wonder if James Gunn has any plans to introduce such a popular character into the new DC Universe. The director was asked about Nubia’s chances to appear during a recent chat with Pay or Wait. Surprisingly, it seems as though the Wonder Woman character is on Gunn’s radar to make an appearance sooner rather than later.

“I am very aware of Nubia. And yes, we are very much talking about that and I want to have all sorts of people represented in the DCU. Yeah, you might be very happy in the distant future.

By “distant future”, it’s not likely James Gunn means a decade plus. Rather, he likely means around 3-5 years. And given Paradise Lost is currently in development for the DC Universe, and will focus on the forgotten corners of Wonder Woman‘s lore, it’s more likely than not that Nubia will at least get a passing mention in the upcoming series.

Paradise Lost has a series order for Max by DC Studios. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of the DC Universe and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
