Is Superman going to appear in Peacemaker? James Gunn suggests that there may be a massive cameo from another corner of the DC Universe in season 2.
Peacemaker has always sat at an odd intersection of the DC Universe. The show’s freshman outing featured a ton of jokes and references to a larger franchise, even if James Gunn himself couldn’t exactly use most of the characters he joked about. The show even ended with a cameo from Superman and the Justice League, suggesting they might have played a large role in the original plans for season 2.
So it only makes sense that, with James Gunn now in full control of the DC Universe with Peter Safran, the real season 2 would lean HARD into the interconnectivity of the franchise. The first teaser for the upcoming season of Peacemaker showed off Maxwell Lord and what remains of the Justice Gang from Superman (potentially teeing them up to become the Justice League of America). However, are they the only cameo?
James Gunn Teases A ‘Big Cameo’ In Peacemaker
James Gunn briefly touched on how Peacemaker transitions into the new DC Universe heading into season 2 during a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly. This includes an acknowledgement that characters from Superman, and the rest of the DC Universe, will be littered throughout the show. However, there is one shocking cameo that he’s saving for last.
“We see a lot of different characters from Superman in the [season],” Gunn explains. “[Including] Isabela [Merced] and Nathan [Fillion] and Sean [Gunn], and then we see a bunch of other characters later on in the season from other parts of the DCU and from Superman. There might even be one really, really, really big cameo near the end of the show.”
Many may read that quote and assume that James Gunn is teasing Superman himself to appear in Peacemaker season 2. And while that may be true, it’s more likely that this specific quote is teasing Lex Luthor. This speculation is due to the overwhelming amount of rumors pointing to Checkmate forming at the end of the project, with a cameo from Lex being able to bring the team to the forefront of the new DC Universe.
