Jeffrey Dean Morgan Reveals Scrapped Plans For Thomas Wayne As Flashpoint Batman

]

Was Jeffrey Dean Morgan originally going to play Batman? The actor reveals the scrapped plans for Thomas Wayne to appear in a Flashpoint adaptation.

Fans were confused when it was first announced that Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Lauren Cohen would be playing Thomas Wayne and Martha in Batman V. Superman. They’re two decently big action actors in their own right, and it seemed odd to have them appear for such a small scene in the project. Though it didn’t take long for gears to start spinning in fans’ minds, leading many to conclude this was all a tease for a future Flashpoint film with Morgan as Batman.

However, as the years went on, all of the speculation seemed to be for naught. Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Lauren Cohen wouldn’t reprise their roles in any future project. And, even though Flashpoint did get adapted on the silver screen, Thomas Wayne was pushed to the side in order to bring Michael Keaton back as Batman. This left many fans to assume that there were never any plans for Thomas Wayne after all, with Zack Snyder simply calling in some old friends to cameo in the project.

The Scrapped Flashpoint Storyline

However, it seems fans might have been on to something all along. Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Lauren Cohen recently appeared on the Den of Geek channel to promote The Walking Dead: Dead City. During the interview, Morgan admitted that there were plans for Thomas Wayne to become Batman in a Flashpoint film. However, the project ultimately never came to life as Zack Snyder was slowly distanced from the franchise.

“Truthfully, Zack was gonna do more movies. And I think there was a time when Flashpoint Batman would have seen these two characters in a much bigger role. And that was part of the Zack world of all of it, and then I never got a chance to do that, unfortunately.”

Given how badly fans have wanted to see Jeffrey Dean Morgan play an evil version of Batman, it’s a truly massive shame that this proposed Flashpoint project never came to life. It would’ve been interesting to see that version of Thomas Wayne interact with Ben Affleck’s take on Batman. Though given the history of that incarnation of the DC Universe, it is only one of the many, many missed opportunities when it came to the pitch perfect casting choices.
