You may or may not believe JoJo Siwa when she says this is the moment she realized she had romantic feelings for her boyfriend Chris Hughes!
As Perezcious readers know, the pair met while starring on Celebrity Big Brother UK in April. They grew close when Chris defended JoJo after Mickey Rourke hurled homophobic comments at her right at the start of the new season. As the show continued, viewers saw the co-stars become extremely flirty with each other. They were cuddling in the same bed, kissing each other on the head and shoulders, slow dancing, and more. The problem? JoJo had a partner back home!

She was dating Kath Ebbs, who identifies as nonbinary and uses they/she pronouns. However, their relationship didn’t last after Celebrity Big Brother! Not even 24 hours after the show wrapped, JoJo dumped Kath at the afterparty! Everyone knew what happened the second the breakup news dropped — the Dance Moms alum left her partner for Chris. JoJo may say the Love Island star had nothing to do with her calling things off with Kath since they were only friends (at the time), but come on! We all had eyes! We saw what formed between Chris and JoJo was a lot more than just a friendship. And it turns out fans were right. They are now officially together.
Don’t expect JoJo to say the sparks were flying between her and Chris inside the Big Brother house now, though! She’s sticking with the story that they were just friends on the show! During the Rosebud With Gyles Brandreth podcast on Friday, the 22-year-old singer opened up about her romance with Chris, saying:
“It’s a beautiful journey. I don’t know how the universe [aligned] for Chris to come into my life. I wasn’t looking to fall for him. He wasn’t looking to fall for me. We just were having so much fun together. We were having a laugh together. Whenever one of us was down, it was the other one of us that helped.”
According to JoJo, it wasn’t until after she left the show and broke up with Kath that she knew she wanted to be more than friends with Chris. She explained she had a change of heart about a lot of things in her life while in the house, noting:
“Leaving the house, you’re in this bubble of Big Brother, so leaving the house I wasn’t sure what was going to happen. But I had all these realizations [about] my life … things that I wasn’t happy [with] and things that I was being OK with that I should never have been OK with.”
The Boomerang artist claimed that “over a little bit of time, I realized that I started to feel something for Christopher that I never intended to, but I couldn’t not feel.”
Yeah, we aren’t buying that she didn’t have feelings for Chris until after the show and break up! Kath probably doesn’t, either! While JoJo may not have outright cheated, her evolving feelings for the reality star must’ve weighed into her split. Right?! It all happened so fast! Anyway…
Fortunately for JoJo, Chris felt the same way. They then became an item and didn’t waste time before going very public with their life update. JoJo continued:
“The word serendipity is Christopher and I’s favorite word now. If you read the definition of it, it’s essentially finding love when you’re least looking for it.”
The Nickelodeon star recalled she and her beau discovered the word while watching the UK version of Who Wants to Be A Millionaire?:
“The answer to the winning question was serendipity. And somebody replied and said [to Hughes], ‘Do you know what serendipity is? It’s literally you and JoJo.’ And we Googled it and both of us freaked out because we were like, that’s crazy that that was the million-dollar question answer. And that is exactly what we’ve really struggled to explain.”
A fortuitous romance. And one JoJo hopes will “last a lifetime.” Wonder how Kath feels about all that…
