Kirti Kulhari, currently promoting her latest film Hisaab Barabar, opened up about her decision to cut her hair short. In an interview with Bollywood Bubble, she discussed how an Instagram post featuring her new look led some to assume she was a lesbian.

She clarified that the change wasn’t meant to make a statement, but simply felt right for her. Surprised by the response, she shared that many women reached out, expressing that her decision had inspired them to embrace shorter hair.
Kirti Kulhari also discussed societal expectations around hair length and the pressure often imposed by family. Recalling a comment that left a lasting impact, she shared, “The day I wrapped up the Hisaab Barabar shoot, I went home and chopped my hair off. When I did, I started getting comments suggesting that people were expecting me to come out as a lesbian. They were saying, ‘She’s going to come out of the closet and announce it soon—just because of her hair.’ So, if I have long hair, I’m not a lesbian, but the moment I cut it, you assume I am? Because your attachment to someone being a homosexual is how she keeps her hairstyle. I was rather amused by the way people see what you do through their lens.”
Kirti Kulhari began her Bollywood career in 2010 with Khichdi: The Movie. She gained recognition with Pink and went on to appear in films like Shaitan, Uri: The Surgical Strike, and Mission Mangal. Kirti also starred in the popular web series Four More Shots Please.
She is currently starring in Hisaab Barabar alongside R. Madhavan and Neil Nitin Mukesh. Directed by Ashwni Dhir, the film follows a railway ticket checker who uncovers hidden corruption through small bank transaction errors. The film is now streaming on ZEE5.
