Captain America is set to lead the Avengers once more! Longtime MCU producer Nate Moore confirms Anthony Mackie will be front-and-center in Avengers: Doomsday.
Despite the project filming next month, details about Avengers: Doomsday have been kept under lock and key. Only a few actors have been confirmed to appear in the project, such as Benedict Cumberbatch and Robert Downey Jr. Otherwise, the cast has been left up to speculation. One of the biggest rumors surrounding the film is that the Captain America actors will collide, with reports stating that both Chris Evans and Anthony Mackie will have large roles in the film.
It seems at least one part of that rumor is true. When speaking about the upcoming Captain America: Brave New World, producer Nate Moore confirmed that Anthony Mackie is set to make his return to the MCU in Avengers: Doomsday. He also teased that Mackie will have a leading role in the film, stating that there hasn’t been an Avengers movie in the MCU where Captain America hasn’t stood front-and-center during the action.
“It’s no secret we’re starting to build to Avengers 5 and I think there’s never been an Avengers movie where there’s not a Captain America at the centre of it,” More explained during an interview with The Movie Report. “So [Captain America: Brave New World] is about Sam Wilson showing the world that he is deserving of the mantle and why he’s both Captain America and not Steve Rogers. And I think he’s going to take the skills from this film and figure out how he can be helpful as the Avengers fight a new threat.”
Anthony Mackie’s Role In Avengers: Doomsday
Even though it’s confirmed that Anthony Mackie will appear as Captain America in Avengers: Doomsday, that doesn’t give fans much in the way of the role he’ll play. However, if one looks back to prior projects in the MCU, there may be some details to gleam about his part. Historically, Captain America recruited close friends to stand up against a threat he saw the government as ill-equipped to handle. This was a pattern even emulated by Sam Wilson himself by bringing Ant-Man onto Team Cap in Captain America: Civil War.
By this logic, it’s likely that Captain America will be recruiting some familiar faces in Avengers: Doomsday to stand against some sort of invading threat. Given Anthony Mackie’s history and chemistry with Sebastian Stan, it wouldn’t be shocking to see the actors reunite in the MCU on the silver screen. It’s also likely Mackie will bring along other street-level Avengers, such as Hawkeye, Daredevil, and Ant-Man.
