Did Deadpool and Wolverine push Michael Fassbender to return to the Marvel universe? The Magneto actor teases big things may be on the horizon.

For as much of a dud as the X-Men franchise was after Days of Future Past, it’s widely agreed upon that Michael Fassbender’s performance as Magneto was one of the best in all of Marvel history. This has left many fans to beg for his return in a future crossover event. While the actor has played things coy in the past, Deadpool and Wolverine may have reignited his interest in the character.

“Well, you know, I loved working with Hugh [Jackman],” Fassbender reflected when speaking to Collider in a recent interview. “You know, he’s an absolute gentleman; he’s so talented. I’m a big fan of Ryan [Reynolds] and what he’s done with the Deadpool series.”

Many fans were hoping that Michael Fassbender would have made a small cameo as Magneto in Deadpool and Wolverine given how heavily the film featured the Brotherhood of Evil. While Marvel was likely saving the biggest stars of their X-Men films for something like Avengers: Secret Wars, at the very least it seems Fassbender would be open to reprise his role in a potential sequel to Ryan Reynolds’ superhero triumph.

Will Michael Fassbender Return As Magneto?

Of course, Michael Fassbender didn’t just leave things at praise for Deadpool and Wolverine. When speaking on the possibility to return as the iconic X-Men villain, he admitted that he does have other priorities in the immediate future. However, it may just be nearing the time for him to don Magneto’s helmet at least one final time.

“I’ve got two little boys. I want to be available to them and be around. So right now, my focus and energy is really going to be on The Agency, but you never say never.”

While nothing in the Marvel universe can ever be certain, especially when it comes to X-Men actors making their return, odds seem good that Michael Fassbender would at least pick up the phone if he was asked to reprise his iconic role. Though given how successful Deadpool and Wolverine proved the IP could be in competent hands, it’s hard to imagine who wouldn’t answer the call!
