Does Lex Luthor have big plans after Superman? Nicholas Hoult reveals his desire to work with another iconic villain from the DC Universe pantheon.
It’s clear that Lex Luthor isn’t going to be a one-and-done villain after Superman. James Gunn likely has big plans for Nicholas Hoult as the DC Universe moves forward. Which has led many fans to wonder: where will his journeys take him next? Though, perhaps more crucially, implicated in this question is what other villain he may work with to accomplish his aims.
There’s been a lot of speculation about what villain Lex Luthor will make his buddy after Superman. Many believe that the events of the film will force Nicholas Hoult’s character right into the arms of Amanda Waller, setting up the DC Universe’s incarnation of Checkmate. Others believe that Luthor may end up joining forces with Maxwell Lord, who’s already set to be played by Sean Gunn.
Nicholas Hoult’s Dream Villain Team-Up
However, it seems that Nicholas Hoult has his own ideas when it comes to what villain Lex Luthor should work with. The actor was recently asked about what character from the DC Universe he’d want to share the screen with in the future. Hoult had to think about his answer for a moment, before telling the Comicbook.com interviewer that he’d love to star in a movie alongside the Joker.
“One of the comics I read in the run up to starting this, there was a link-up between Lex and Joker. The combination of those two together was really fun to read. So perhaps if we are lucky and get to keep making movies, that’s something I would like to see combined there.”
Seeing Lex Luthor and the Joker team-up on the silver screen is something fans of the DC Universe have been dreaming about for literal decades. Given just how much Batman content seems to be coming down the line for the franchise, it does seem almost inevitable that Nicholas Hoult will encounter some form of the Joker in his tenure. Let’s just hope it’s not Jared Leto!
