Has the MCU finally found its Richard Rider? Wicked breakout Jonathan Bailey is at the center of the latest rumor for the Nova Disney Plus series.
Ever since Nova found its official showrunner late last year, the rumor mill has been awash with supposed leaks out of the upcoming series on Disney Plus. Some of the biggest scoops to hit the net revolve around who will play the titular Richard Rider. Almost every actor with a buzz cut, stubble and a solid jaw line has been rumored to star in the project, with Brandon Sklenar being the most recent thespian to gain traction by the MCU fandom.
That list grows even longer with the latest rumor from MyTimeToShineHello, which suggests that Wicked and Fellow Travelers star Jonathan Bailey is being considered to bring Richard Rider to life in the MCU. The actor is certainly on a hot streak in Hollywood, with his upcoming role in Jurassic World Rebirth being the true test for if he can carry a blockbuster project. If the film does well, it wouldn’t be shocking to see Bailey headline a Disney Plus series like Nova.
Is Jonathan Bailey Playing Nova In The MCU?
Richard Rider isn’t the only comic book role Jonathan Bailey is supposedly up for. Alongside the starring role in the Nova series, many fans believe the Wicked star is being considered for the role of Batman in the DC Universe. If he lands that part, it’s likely Bailey wouldn’t have the time or bandwidth to handle a Disney Plus series set in the MCU alongside the likely Sisyphean task of portraying Batman on the silver screen.
The upcoming Nova series is heavily inspired by classic sci-fi ensemble shows. These include franchises like Star Trek and Battlestar Galactica. The show is set to focus on Richard Rider, bringing one of the longest awaited heroes from Marvel’s cosmic side into the MCU. While early development on the show has begun, the show isn’t expected to hit Disney Plus until, at the earliest, 2027.
