Even the Devourer of Worlds can be humbled! Ralph Ineson recalls his reaction upon being cast in The Fantastic Four: First Steps as Galactus.
The cast of The Fantastic Four: First Steps is full of heavy hitters. Almost every member of Marvel’s First Family has been all-but-confirmed to play their parts for months prior to the official announcement. However, the true shock for fans came with the film’s villains, with Julia Garner being tapped to play Silver Surfer and Ralph Ineson landing the role of Galactus.
That shock seemed to translate to Ralph Ineson was well. When reflecting on being cast as Galactus, he admitted that it was a very humbling experience to receive the news. This is because, while he declined to name names, there were a lot of other big actors up for the role of antagonist in The Fantastic Four: First Steps. He also admitted that the positive attention from the internet allowed him to have more confidence in performing for the role.
“It was really humbling,” Ineson explained to Yahoo! during the Nosferatu red carpet. “When they announced that, I was like ‘how is that going to go down?’ because there were a lot of big names that had been attached. I was expecting people to go, ‘sorry, who?’”
“It was lovely and very heart-warming. It gave me a lot of confidence going into the job, to be honest, knowing that it seems there’s a large portion of fans that like the idea of me doing it.”
Galactus’ Role In The Fantastic Four: First Steps
All signs point to Galactus being the main villain in The Fantastic Four: First Steps. Ralph Ineson also wasn’t lying in saying that there was a lot of competition in being cast for that role. While obviously no rumor can be taken as 100% fact, some massive names were up for the part alongside him. These include, but are not limited to Javier Bardem, Liam Neeson, and Antonio Banderas.
However, Galactus won’t be the only villain. Urban explorers accidentally stumbled upon the lair of an iconic villain that was built for The Fantastic Four: First Steps. John Malkovich is also reportedly playing an obscure villain from the team’s oldest comics. So even if Ralph Ineson won’t be getting the limelight all to himself, it seems he’s in good company.
The Fantastic Four: First Steps opens on July 25, 2025. Stay tuned for all the latest news regarding the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
