Fans have known for quite some time that Rick Flag Sr. would be playing some kind of role in Superman. The big question has been how will his character transition from Creature Commandos, and how will the events of the film change his character leading into season 2 of both it and Peacemaker? Surprisingly, the answer is a bit complex.
To recap the role of Rick Flag. Sr in Superman, the character serves as a general representing the US military. Most of his role focuses on an advisory council he’s on with Lex Luthor, with the latter insisting that Superman is a metahuman threat that needs to be taken out. Surprisingly, Rick Flag Sr. stands against Luthor, insisting that metahumans themselves aren’t the problem and that they shouldn’t make drastic moves without proof. This sentiment likely came about following his time with the Creature Commandos.
How Superman Sets Up Creature Commandos Season 2
However, Rick Flag Sr. doesn’t go unchallenged throughout Superman. The film ends with the Justice Gang (and Metamorpho) defending Jarhanpur from a Boravian invasion. This leads to another member of the council remarking to Rick Flag Sr. that metahumans can now set the stage for global affairs. And judging by his face, he isn’t happy.
It seems as though the events of Superman may sour Rick Flag Sr. on the ability for metahumans to make a positive impact in a black ops setting. As such, he may actually be aligned against the Creature Commandos heading into season 2, potentially putting him into the role of a main antagonist. This could certainly be an interesting flip in the dynamic, especially given how beloved the character was as a hero in season 1.
