With filming on Avengers: Doomsday beginning in earnest, fans have been frothing at the mouth for any BTS look they can get of the upcoming blockbuster event. Perhaps the most coveted prize being sought is a glimpse at the costume Robert Downey Jr. will be wearing to play Doctor Doom, with it still being unclear exactly which version of the character will be adapted in the upcoming film.
Robert Downey Jr. decided to give fans a small taste of the costume, but not in the way many might have hoped. The actor posted a BTS photo to his Instagram showing off the muscle suit that he’ll be wearing beneath his Doctor Doom costume while filming Avengers: Doomsday. This is far from abnormal in the world of superhero industries, with muscle suits often used to bolster the natural highlights of costumes.
What Will Doctor Doom Look Like In Avengers: Doomsday?
Despite fans brushing this image off as not saying much, it does actually reveal some key details about how Doctor Doom will look in Avengers: Doomsday. The fact that Robert Downey Jr. is wearing muscle pads means that, for at least some points of the film, Doctor Doom’s costume will lack armor. This likely means that his usual metal suit is off the table from appearing.
There is, notably, one incarnation of Doctor Doom that fits this description: The Annihilating Conqueror. This was a title given to the character in the wake of him draining the power from Kang the Conqueror and Annihilus. If this speculation is true, it’s possible that Avengers: Doomsday will be adapting that storyline in some form to explain why Robert Downey Jr. took over the leading villain role over Jonathan Majors.
