Shruti Haasan, who has often expressed her admiration for the legendary A.R. Rahman, recently opened up about her emotional journey meeting the iconic music composer. Shruti Haasan reflects on working with A.R. Rahman; says, “He’s truly evolved”
“I always feel like when I really love somebody’s art, I don’t like to meet them,” Shruti Haasan confessed in a recent interview with Filmfare. She recalled a memorable experience of meeting singer-songwriter Tori Amos in London, where her admiration for the artist overwhelmed her emotions. “I met Tori Amos in London and I started crying like a total fan girl and I started shaking and crying because she was a part of who I am as a musician. I got her email ID but I didn’t mail her because I didn’t want to spoil where I keep her,” Shruti shared, revealing how deeply the experience impacted her.
However, meeting A.R. Rahman was a different experience, one that she described as calm and fulfilling. “When I met Rahman sir, I was super worried about that, but he has turned out to be really evolved, kind, and wonderful and that’s my favourite thing about Rahman sir,” she added. The actress reflected on how growing up listening to Rahman’s music had a profound effect on her, and meeting him in person gave her a deeper understanding of why his music resonates with so many people. “I grew up loving his music and then got to meet a person who is truly evolved, and then you understand why the music is like that.”
Shruti Haasan and A.R. Rahman have collaborated on multiple projects, with their latest work including the lively track ‘It’s A Break Up Da’ from Kadhalikka Neramillai, the celebrated Tamil anthem ‘Semmozhi’, and the MTV Unplugged recreation of ‘Ranjha Ranjha’. These collaborations highlight Shruti’s seamless ability to blend her acting and musical talents with Rahman’s exceptional compositions.
On the acting front, Shruti Haasan is gearing up for a big year with two major releases. She will be seen alongside Rajinikanth and Nagarjuna in the upcoming film Coolie, set to release on August 14. Additionally, Shruti will make her debut in international cinema with The Eye, slated for release later this year, marking a significant step in her expanding career.
