The Green Goblin may not be down for the count just yet! Willem Dafoe gives his thoughts on making a return to his iconic Spider-Man role.
Spider-Man: No Way Home truly felt like a celebration of the character both within and outside of the MCU. Not only did it serve as a satisfying narrative conclusion for Tom Holland’s take on the character, but it also served as a return of some of the most iconic actors to grace the franchise. Perhaps the most impressive to return was Willem Dafoe, who seemed to have not lost a single step as Green Goblin in twenty years.
While the film did end with the villains being sent back to their home universes, it didn’t completely end their stories. Willem Dafoe’s Norman Osborn in particular was seemingly given a whole new path forward, with his character being cured and reflecting on his actions as the Green Goblin. This left many fans hoping that the villain-turned-hero may return in a future MCU film to continue his redemption, potentially even aiding Spider-Man in the follow-up to No Way Home.
Will Willem Dafoe Return As Green Goblin?
Willem Dafoe was asked about the possibility of Green Goblin finding his way back into the MCU during the recent press tour for Nosferatu. Perhaps coming as a shock to many fans, it seems the actor is incredibly open to making his return in a future Spider-Man project, revealing that he loved working with Tom Holland and the crew. However, he stopped just short of officially confirming any plans for Norman Osborn to find his way back to the Sacred Timeline.
“We’ll see. We’ll see [Laughs]. I could come back,” Dafoe explained in a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight. “Listen, Tom was great to work with and the whole series of Spider-Man films that I did were great fun. Great fun.”
With the multiverse saga coming to an end, it’s not likely that Willem Dafoe would make an appearance in a future Spider-Man film unless it were to happen soon. It’s possible that he already knows what lies in store for Norman Osborn now that he’s no longer the Green Goblin. And with Tom Holland’s next Spider-Man film starting production next year, it’s likely fans will know the truth about his return sooner rather than later.
