Was Shawn Levy cooking with his Star Wars movie? A new rumor has seemingly revealed an interesting scrapped concept for the film.
Shawn Levy has quickly become one of the most well-known and most controversial directors in recent memory. Levy helmed the wildly successful Deadpool And Wolverine, grossing over a billion at the box office and being beloved by fans. However, he also directed projects like Free Guy, which has become a punching bag for out of touch corporate films by the broader film community.
This led to a lot of mixed reactions when it was announced that he would be helming a Star Wars movie. Some believed it could be the shot of adrenaline that the franchise was missing, while others worry that it’ll only continue the trend of mediocre projects focused more on spectacle and crossovers than substance. Though it seems at least Levy is confident in the upcoming project.
“Because ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ was so fulfilling, I’m quite happily open to whatever’s next,” Levy explained to IndieWire in a recent chat. “And yes, there’s a Star Wars movie that I’m developing, actually with our Adam Project screenwriter Jonathan Tropper. You never know what’s going to become undeniable and get made next.”
Shawn Levy’s Scrapped Star Wars Story
Though it seems the story for Shawn Levy’s Star Wars film may not be what was initially planned. A rumor from insider DanielRPK suggests that the movie was originally meant to feature Daisy Ridley return as an older version of Rey Skywalker. While the scooper didn’t specifically say that these plans were scrapped, the fact that Rey is getting her own film doesn’t spell great things for the odds that these plans have remained intact.
The insider also claims that Shawn Levy is officially set to start shooting the Star Wars project sometime later this year, potentially aiming for a Fall production in the UK. No casting announcements have been made for the project, nor have there been any reports of the studio broaching big name actors to star in the film.
