Fans may have to wait just a bit longer for the finale of Stranger Things! A new report suggests that season 5 will be released in two parts.
After three long years of nothing, Stranger Things will finally come to an end later this year with its long-awaited season 5. However, despite this being the grand finale of Netflix’s tentpole show, there’s been no word on when the season might actually be released. And while a new report gives fans a window, it also sheds light on a disappointingly familiar strategy.
According to the website What’s On Netflix, the streamer plans to release Stranger Things Season 5 in two parts in October and November. Hearing a range may ring bells for longtime fans of the series, as season 4 was infamously released in two parts all the way back in 2022. Netflix seems intent on repeating this strategy with season 5, according to the outlet, though there’s no word on when either part will be released within that range.
Why Stranger Things Season 5 Will Be Split
Netflix originally angled the delay of the final episodes of Stranger Things season 4 as a way to build hype for the long-awaited finale. However, it would come out that the real reason to split the season into two was to buy the team more time to finalize the VFX for the bombastic final episodes. It’s likely, given how big season 5 is set to be, that Netflix is preemptively working that window into their release schedule for the series.
However, many fans would argue that releasing season 5 with one episode a week instead of two batches would accomplish both the goal of building hype and buying time to finish VFX. Though given how heavily Netflix has leaned into the “binge” model, especially when it comes to Stranger Things, it’s likely this strategy is here to stay.
