‘Superman’ BTS Photo Reveals New Look At María Gabriela De Faría As The Engineer

]

The Engineer is ready for business! James Gunn has shared a new BTS photo featuring María Gabriela De Faría on the set of Superman.

Superman is absolutely chocked full of characters. From superhero allies to ARGUS enemies, it’s clear that James Gunn threw everything and the kitchen sink into the script in order to craft the most bombastic start to the DC Universe that he could. And that’s not even counting the people that work on the Daily Planet or surprise cameos that haven’t been revealed! Though even beyond all of that, there is one character that fans know will appear, but has remained mostly a mystery. And that is María Gabriela De Faría’s character The Engineer.

The Engineer was one of the earliest characters fans learned about when James Gunn was casting for Superman. James Gunn brought María Gabriela De Faría alongside other prominent faces like Nathan Fillion and Edi Gathegi. However, unlike the two above, Faría has been all but absent from trailers for the upcoming film. This has left the character’s role in the film, and in tandem her role in the wider DC Universe, shrouded in mystery.

James Gunn Shares A New BTS Photo

While fans still don’t have many answers, James Gunn did provide the first clear look fans have gotten of The Engineer in ages. To celebrate the character’s anniversary, the director posted on image of María Gabriela De Faría on the set of Superman. The character appears to be knocked out in a football stadium, which is a locale fans first saw last year in set photos depicting the climactic battle between Superman and the mysterious “U” villain.

It’s also important to note that James Gunn describes The Engineer as “sinister” in this BTS photo. While the character certainly seems rather inert in the image itself, the wording does tip the director’s hand about the character’s role in Superman. Specifically that, unlike many of the other heroes in the ensemble, María Gabriela De Faría will be playing an antagonistic force against the Man of Steel.

Superman is currently scheduled to hit theaters on July 11, 2025. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of the DC Universe and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
