Did Superman go through major changes in the editing bay? The latest rumor sheds some light on the film’s supposed episodic structure.
The rumor mill has churned out some weird reports concerning Superman, but perhaps none more odd than the film having an episodic structure. A number of scoopers reported that the project would be split into multiple “days”, reflecting the Seven Labors of Superman and giving the Man of Steel new trials to face, instead of the traditional “one big bad” narrative.
Even more interesting, this episodic structure was apparently cut late into development. This led many to believe that Superman had undergone a massive restructuring, changing and scrapping scenes to try to retool it into one, cohesive narrative. This would certainly be cause for alarm, especially given DC’s history of ruining movies in the editing bay.
Does Superman Have An Episodic Structure?
But the truth, as always, much more mundane than the rumor mill makes it out to be. While insiders DanielRPK and MyTimeToShineHello have both confirmed the nixing of the episodic structure, that seems to be all that was scrapped from Superman. This idea was bolstered by poster ViewerAnon who revealed that, while the cards reading which day it was have been scrapped from the final product, the actual narrative has not been touched.

This rumor is a bit of sugar mixed with medicine. On one hand, if Superman works better without the title cards signifying what day it is, it’s likely a good idea to get rid of the episodic structure. However, given how successful Superman will be no matter what, it’s a shame that the editors of the film weren’t allowed to give the general audiences a little spice beyond what’s expected of them.
