Will Superman actually be peak? A new rumor regarding a test screening for the film suggests James Gunn may have some tricks left up his sleeve for the DC Universe.
Test screening has always been a popular topic for the rumor mill. Given these reports solely reflect a single person’s opinion on a movie, they’re prime to be thrown out with reckless abandon, regardless of how true they are. This pattern continues to be true with the first movie in the new DC Universe, James Gunn’s Superman, which has been hit with a bevvy of rumors in recent weeks about its quality from supposed test screenings.
Prior test screening reports have suggested a less than perfect picture for the DC Universe’s inaugural outing. At the end of last year, the fine folks at The Hot Mic reported that Superman ended up as a rather mixed bag, not being too great while not being too horrible either, with a tone reflecting old adventure classics. Though this claim was updated in the most recent rumor, with it being suggested that the latest cut of James Gunn’s film is “terrible”.
Are Superman Test Screenings Going Well?
Luckily for fans, the latest rumor regarding Superman’s quality paints a much more positive picture. According to the fan page DC da Depressão, the most recent test screening went about as well as could be. The account had high praise for the DC Universe’s breakout stars like Nicholas Hoult and Rachel Brosnahan. It also seems as though James Gunn was able to smooth out some of the weird CGI fans noticed in initial teasers.
Though, perhaps most interestingly, the rumor also states that there are a few “surprise” villains set to appear in Superman. Given how wide James Gunn has already cast the net of the DC Universe, almost everyone is on the table regarding who could appear alongside Lex Luthor, Maxwell Lord, Amanda Waller, and (reportedly) Ultraman. Though given Gunn has previously posted the Peacemaker mermaid emoji in relation to the movie, it’s likely either him or Vigilante appear in the film at some point.
Superman is currently scheduled to hit theaters on July 11, 2025. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of the DC Universe and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
